A $259.99 armored under-jacket for dirt and ADV riding
The Short Answer: The REV’IT! Proteus is a $259.99 lightweight mesh protector jacket meant to be worn under a jersey or adventure jacket. It packs SEEFLEX CE Level 2 shoulder and elbow armor, a removable SEESOFT CE Level 2 back protector and Level 1 chest pads, plus thumb loops. It has no meaningful abrasion resistance on its own, so it’s strictly an under-layer.
Think of the REV’IT! Proteus as the gear equivalent of a bulletproof vest under a nice suit. Nobody sees it, but you’ll be awfully glad it’s there if things go sideways. Adam Waheed walks through REV’IT!’s new armored under-jacket in this SpeedAddictsTV video, and the message is clear: lots of protection, lots of airflow, and a hard rule that it goes underneath something else.

Who Is the REV’IT! Proteus For?
Waheed calls the Proteus “really an under jacket.” It’s designed for riders who want serious impact protection under a conventional jacket or motocross jersey: adventure-touring and off-road riders, especially in situations where a fall is more likely. REV’IT! positions it as an upgrade for its DIRT Series collection.
The key caveat: “This motorcycle jacket is loaded with protection, but it doesn’t have any abrasion protection.” REV’IT! certifies it as a Class CU garment under EN 17092-6, the category for impact-protector garments worn under other gear. If you hit asphalt or hard dirt wearing only the Proteus, expect road rash.
Price, Sizing and Fit
The Proteus comes in one color (black) and retails for $259 per the video; REV’IT!’s U.S. site lists $259.99. Sizes run small through 3XL. Waheed, at 6 feet and 190 pounds, wears a large and says it fits true to size but runs a little slim. That tracks with REV’IT!’s “Tight fit” designation, which is meant to move with your body like a base layer.
Construction: Stretch and Mesh Everywhere
The body uses stretchy materials and mesh throughout. REV’IT! specifies densely woven Hicom mesh on the shoulders, a two-way spandex mesh body and PWR|stretch mesh on the inner sleeves. The result, Waheed says, is a garment that’s “really designed to move a lot of air.”
Armor: CE Level 2 Where It Counts
- SEEFLEX CE Level 2 shoulders and elbows. Waheed likes how thick and robust the elbow pieces are, with coverage running from the forearm up toward the mid upper arm.
- Removable SEESOFT CE Level 2 back protector. It’s tall and wide, which he appreciates.
- SEESOFT CE Level 1 divided chest protectors. Removable, and a nice extra for protecting your torso.
Thumb Loops: The Unsung Hero
Waheed “absolutely loves” the stretchable thumb loops. With long arms, he finds that sleeves creep up when he’s stretched out on a bike, exposing skin. The loops keep the cuffs where they belong. Small feature, big deal.
Warranty and Verdict
REV’IT! backs its products with a two-year warranty, and the Proteus is available now at Speed Addicts. If you ride dirt or ADV and want to step up your impact protection without baking inside a heavy jacket, the Proteus is a smart under-layer. Just don’t treat it like a jacket. It isn’t one.
