White KYT TT-Revo helmet with a Cardo Packtalk Edge communicator snapping onto its magnetic mount
KYT TT-Revo plus Packtalk Edge: a $169.99 race-replica lid that now talks more than your riding buddy.

Clamp mount, deep speaker pockets, zero dangling wires

The Short Answer: To install a Cardo Packtalk Edge on a KYT TT-Revo, slide the plastic clamp into the left-side shell gap because the TT-Revo’s aero ridges suit the clamp better than adhesive. Remove the speaker-pocket foam, Velcro the JBL speakers in, mount the slim wired mic center-chin, route wires under the crown liner, reinstall the cheek pads and snap the unit on.

How to Install a Cardo Packtalk Edge on the KYT TT-Revo (SpeedAddictsTV)

Bluetooth communicators have a reputation for turning otherwise level-headed riders into nervous wrecks the moment they have to pry the cheek pads out of a pricey helmet. Adam Waheed’s SpeedAddictsTV install guides exist to fix that. In this one, he installs a Cardo Systems Packtalk Edge in the KYT TT-Revo, a race-inspired street helmet, step by step, and shows that with a little patience it’s a genuinely easy at-home job.

This installation guide is brought to you by Speed Addicts, home of the full lineup of Cardo Systems communicators and helmets like the KYT TT-Revo. If you’re in Southern California, visit the Speed Addicts Superstore in Orange, California, to see and try helmets and Cardo units in person. Buy your communicator there and the crew will install it for you if you’d rather not do it at home.

Packtalk Edge Box Contents and Choices

  • Plastic cradle with magnetic mount, which holds the unit securely. The whole device is waterproof (Cardo rates it IP67).
  • Two mounting options: a plastic clamp, usually best for street helmets, and a 3M adhesive mount, usually better for off-road helmets.
  • Two mics: a boom mic for the highest voice quality and a slimline wired mic that’s smaller, cleaner and stays away from your mouth.
  • JBL-engineered speakers. The Edge’s are smaller in diameter than the Packtalk Pro’s. They work really well, but if you want the most premium audio, Waheed points you to the Pro, whose speakers are larger with better fidelity and volume.
  • USB to USB-C cable, Velcro mounts, double-sided Velcro shims and alcohol prep pads.

Why the Packtalk Edge Goes on the Left

Your right hand is busy with the throttle, so Cardo designed the Edge to be operated with your left hand. Mount it on the right and “you wouldn’t be able to use it at all.”

Why the TT-Revo Gets the Clamp Mount

The TT-Revo’s shell has aerodynamic diffusers and subtle ridges that aren’t ideal for the adhesive plate, so Waheed uses the plastic clamp. It slides into the gap between the shell and the interior trim; you may need a little elbow grease, but the TT-Revo seals nicely against the clip. The clamp also lets you adjust: his first placement was a bit too far forward, so he slid it back. With the one-time adhesive, you don’t get a do-over. If you go that route, practice and maybe mark your spot first.

Step-by-Step: Installing the Packtalk Edge on the TT-Revo

  1. Put the helmet on a helmet donut.
  2. Push the plastic clamp into the left-side recess and adjust it so it’s not too far forward or back for easy left-hand reach.
  3. Open the speaker pockets. The TT-Revo has generous pockets with foam covers held in by Velcro; remove the foam if you’re installing speakers.
  4. Install the long-cable speaker on the side opposite the cradle with the included adhesive Velcro. “These JBL speakers… look like they’ve been precisely engineered for placement inside this TT-Revo helmet.”
  5. Install the short-cable speaker on the cradle side. Be gentle around the emergency cheek-pad release tabs and don’t rip out the plastic rivets.
  6. Tuck the speaker wires under the crown liner, which tucks into the back of the helmet.
  7. Mount the slim wired mic in the center of the chin bar, clear of the chin vents, with the wire on the left side.
  8. Connect the mic and speakers. The arrow-marked mic plug and the speaker jack click in securely.
  9. Hide the connectors under the crown liner and tuck the mic cable into the gasket material.
  10. Reinstall the cheek pads, left then right, with care.
  11. Snap the Packtalk Edge onto the magnetic mount.

Waheed also reminds riders that a well-treated helmet should live a good five-year lifespan, so treat the interior hardware with respect.

FAQ

Should I use the clamp or adhesive mount on a KYT TT-Revo?

Waheed uses the plastic clamp because the TT-Revo’s aero ridges don’t suit the adhesive plate, and the clamp allows position adjustments.

Does the KYT TT-Revo have speaker pockets?

Yes, generous ones with removable foam covers. The Packtalk Edge’s JBL speakers fit them very cleanly.

Which microphone works best in the TT-Revo?

Waheed uses the slimline wired mic for a cleaner install. The boom mic delivers slightly better voice quality.

Is the Cardo Packtalk Edge waterproof?

Yes. Cardo rates it IP67.

Will Speed Addicts install it for me?

Yes. If you buy your communicator from Speed Addicts, the Superstore team in Orange, California, will install it.
