The rumble of the Rotax engine echoes through the granite spires of South Dakota, but the sound isn’t coming from a traditional cruiser. We’ve touched down in the heart of the Black Hills to put the all-new Can-Am Canyon three-wheeler to the ultimate test. This isn’t just a scenic Sunday cruise; it’s a fun adventure alongside the Road Warrior Foundation, an organization dedicated to “adventure therapy” for wounded, ill, and injured veterans.
Riding through the desolate, winding pavement and packed gravel just outside of Sturgis, the Canyon proves it’s more than a luxury trike—it’s a purpose-built adventure machine. With a panoramic dash that serves up maps, music, and critical ride data, the tech suite is as expansive as the South Dakota horizon. But the real magic happens when the pavement ends.
Jason Abbott from BRP/Can-Am walked us through the “Rally Mode” settings, which allow riders to dial back the traction control and adjust the electronic power steering for maximum dirt-drifting fun. Whether we were backing it into gravel corners or chasing views of Mount Rushmore, the Canyon’s stability system and rugged suspension handled the transition from road to trail with surprising poise. After a day of kicking up rooster tails, we capped off the journey at Recreational Springs with a prime rib feast fit for a Road Warrior. In the world of three wheels, the Canyon isn’t just a new model, it’s a new frontier.
