Welcome back to Garage Talk right here on Moto-1.com. Today, we’re rolling up our sleeves to learn all the ins and outs of Suzuki’s easy-riding 2026 GSX-8R sportbike.
Before we dive into the meat and potatoes, a quick shoutout to Yoshimura for supporting this episode. Its street-legal AT2 slip-on muffler drops some serious weight and gives this parallel-twin engine an oh-so-crispy exhaust note that echoes beautifully off the Southern California canyon walls.
The Heart of the Beast
Powering the 2026 GSX-8R ($9,699) is Suzuki’s brilliant 776cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC, eight-valve parallel-twin engine. Pumping out just over 70 horsepower and 50 lb-ft of torque, this powerplant sends its grunt to a 17-inch rear wheel via a chain final drive. Suzuki wisely equipped this bike with a cable-actuated slipper clutch and a buttery smooth bi-directional electronic quickshifter, meaning you can bang through the six-speed gearbox with full-throttle upshifts and clutchless downshifts. The V-twin-like power pulses are so incredibly linear and smooth that you hardly even need the non-IMU, 3-way adjustable traction control.
Chassis and Handling: A Pleasant Surprise
It rolls on a sturdy steel frame mated to a cast aluminum swingarm with a nice long stretch, giving the bike a generous wheelbase for rock-solid stability. Fully fueled up with its 3.7-gallon tank, the GSX-8R tips the scales at 452 pounds. While that might sound like it had one too many California burritos for a midsize bike, you will be absolutely blown away by how nimbly it carves a line on a twisty road.

Suzuki chose Showa for the suspension duties, utilizing a non-adjustable inverted fork up front and a linkage-equipped rear shock featuring only preload adjustability. But don’t let the lack of clickers deter you; Suzuki nailed the factory calibration. It glides over bumps with a plushness that makes it one of the best OE suspension setups we’ve tested in a long time. Braking is handled by triple-disc hydraulics clamped by Nissin radial-mount calipers. While it utilizes a slightly old-school master cylinder and you cannot manually disable the fixed ABS, it provides plenty of stopping power for spirited street riding.
Electronics and Comfort
Taking aesthetic cues from one of our favorite value-conscious naked bikes—the GSX-S1000—the 8R features aggressive stacked LED headlights. The cockpit is thoroughly modern, boasting a gorgeous color TFT dash (compatible with the Suzuki MySpin app) and ride-by-wire throttle technology tied to the Suzuki Drive Mode System (yielding A, B, and C power delivery maps). Add in the notably high-quality torx-head fasteners and a surprisingly upright handlebar position, and you have a sportbike that is as comfortable commuting down the Pacific Coast Highway as it is attacking apexes.
