When Alpinestars dropped the R10 a couple of years ago, it was a statement of intent: a purebred racing lid designed for the sharp end of the MotoGP grid. But for those of us who spend our weekends at local tracks like Willow Springs or carving through Southern California’s canyons, the R10’s nearly $1,400 price tag and hyper-aggressive focus felt a bit like wearing a tuxedo to a backyard BBQ. Enter the Supertech R7.
At roughly half the price of the R10 motorcycle helmet, the R7 isn’t just a budget version; in many ways, it’s the smarter choice. The first thing you notice is the interior. It has been completely redesigned with a more premium feel against the skin. More importantly, the fit is customizable. Using a unique crown liner mechanism, you can shift the helmet’s orientation. If you’re tucked in on a Ninja ZX-6R sportbike at the track, you can tilt the helmet down for a better vertical field of view. For a more upright street commute, you can click it back to a neutral position.

The ventilation is where the R7 really punches above its weight. The top vent has been redesigned to be far easier to operate with gloved hands—a small detail that makes a massive difference when you’re mid-session and need a breeze. On track, the R7 flows a “scant” more air than the R10, keeping your head remarkably cool even under the high-desert sun.
Aerodynamically, the R7 lacks the R10’s massive rear wing and full aero kit, but don’t let that fool you. Even at speeds of 130 mph on the Streets of Willow, the helmet cuts through the air with zero buffeting. It’s also arguably a touch quieter than the R10, making it a more versatile companion for riders who split their time between the apex and the interstate.
The most modern touch is the integration for the Alpinestars A-Connect Bluetooth system. Unlike traditional comms that look like a plastic tumor on the side of your lid, the A-Connect is tucked away with no external wires or dangling mics. It pairs seamlessly with devices like the Insta360 X4, allowing for crystal-clear audio recording while you ride.
